  2. Identifying attachment problems and maladaptive coping strategies in children of parents with addiction
  3. Cognitive Behavioral therapy for maladaptive coping strategies in the children of parents with addiction
  4. “It will never happen to me” - breaking the cycle of intergenerational addictive disorders

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to identify at least two negative developmental inputs that children of persons with addiction might suffer.
  • Participants will be able to identify at least two maladaptive coping mechanisms that adult children of persons with addiction might carry into adulthood.
  • Participants will be able to describe the cognitive behavioral case conceptualization of at least one maladaptive coping mechanism as a guide for treatment.

Ned Presnall, MSW, LCSW

Ned Presnall is a licensed clinical social worker, researcher, and educator. Ned has taught courses on addiction treatment for the Brown School of Social Work, Missouri Institute for Mental Health, MO Department of Mental Health, MO Primary Care Association, Institute for Research, Training, and Education in Addictions, and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
