  1. Overview of FDA-approved medications for alcohol use disorder
  2. Research supporting each of the medications
  3. Collaborating with prescribers in Medication Assisted Treatment
  4. Integrating psychotherapy with the medical treatment of AUD.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to describe the mechanism of action for all three FDA-approved medications for alcohol use disorder.
  • Participants will be able to identify at least one client characteristic which would make them appropriate candidates for each medication.
  • Participants will be able to name at least one strategy for facilitating a client's medical treatment for AUD.

Ned Presnall, MSW, LCSW

Ned Presnall is a licensed clinical social worker, researcher, and educator. Ned has taught courses on addiction treatment for the Brown School of Social Work, Missouri Institute for Mental Health, MO Department of Mental Health, MO Primary Care Association, Institute for Research, Training, and Education in Addictions, and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

Ned and his colleagues at Plan Your Recovery in St. Louis provide comprehensive care to persons with addiction and other mental health problems, including individual, couples, and family therapy and psychiatry.
