Partners and Spouses in Office-based Substance Use Disorder Treatment - Part 1

  1. Partners as motivation for treatment
  2. Partner involvement in office-based treatment
  3. Understanding and addressing codependency
  4. Rebuilding trust in relationships affected by addiction

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to give at least two reasons for involving partners in office-based SUD treatment.
  • Participants will be able to define codependency and describe its role in reinforcing addiction.
  • Participants will be able to describe to couples the difference between love and trust.
  • Participants will be able to describe for couples how the rebuilding of trust after active addiction is achieved.

Ned Presnall, MSW, LCSW

Ned Presnall is a licensed clinical social worker, researcher, and educator. Ned has taught courses on addiction treatment for the Brown School of Social Work, Missouri Institute for Mental Health, MO Department of Mental Health, MO Primary Care Association, Institute for Research, Training, and Education in Addictions, and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

Ned and his colleagues at Plan Your Recovery in St. Louis provide comprehensive care to persons with addiction and other mental health problems, including individual, couples, and family therapy and psychiatry.
