  3. Rebuilding empathy in relationships affected by addiction
  4. Talking with children about addiction and recovery

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to accurately describe the two dimensions (anxiety and avoidance) and four types of attachment.
  • Participants will be able to describe the pursuer/avoider conflict and its role in the relapse cycle.
  • Participants will be able to describe and implement an empathy exercise for partners recovering from addiction.

Ned Presnall, MSW, LCSW

Ned Presnall is a licensed clinical social worker, researcher, and educator. Ned has taught courses on addiction treatment for the Brown School of Social Work, Missouri Institute for Mental Health, MO Department of Mental Health, MO Primary Care Association, Institute for Research, Training, and Education in Addictions, and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

Ned and his colleagues at Plan Your Recovery in St. Louis provide comprehensive care to persons with addiction and other mental health problems, including individual, couples, and family therapy and psychiatry.
