When to Say When - Helping clients accept a higher level of care

Topics:

  1. Progress not Perfection: Understanding when office-based treatment is not working
  2. Collaborating with client to improve treatment plan
  3. Collaborating with client on criteria for transitioning to a higher level of care
  4. Involving family in a transition plan to a higher level of care

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to name at least two criteria which indicate that office-based treatment is insufficient for a client with an SUD.
  • Participants will be able to name at least one strategy for motivating clients to accept a higher level of care.
  • Participants will be able to describe how family members can help reinforce a client's decision to accept a higher level of care.

Ned Presnall, MSW, LCSW

Ned Presnall is a licensed clinical social worker, researcher, and educator. Ned has taught courses on addiction treatment for the Brown School of Social Work, Missouri Institute for Mental Health, MO Department of Mental Health, MO Primary Care Association, Institute for Research, Training, and Education in Addictions, and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
